Zoom to your Location

You don't have to go to the location to get started shooting your documentary. Use the now free  Google Earth Pro  to zoom in to your location from outer space.

(If you can't see the video, you can see it on Youtube, where it looks much better.)

Falls Creek, NSW, Australia

To see a World in a Grain of Sand
And a Heaven in a Wild Flower
Hold Infinity in the palm of your hand
And Eternity in an hour

William Blake - Auguries of Innocence 1803

Heavy quote. Why this blog? I was asked to do a presentation about documentaries for some amateur video clubs. So I'm preparing some notes to inspire those mainly elderly amateur video makers to make a short documentary video. I'm using this as an example to show how you can create a documentary with global impact just in your neighborhood using mine as an example.  I'll let you know eventually where you can pick up the notes, and who knows, there might be one or more short related documentaries.

Some Background

Falls Creek is a locality - you'd be hard pressed to call it a town - eight kilometers South of Nowra. Don't confuse it with Falls Creek ski resort at Mt Beauty , Victoria or any of the many Falls Creeks in the rest of the world. The locality takes it's name from two small waterfalls where two creeks meet and plunge into a pool. At times the pool was known as "the basin" and the falls "Horseshoe Falls".  The basin once was a swimming hole popular with he local community. The larger of the two creeks is Parma Creek, which becomes Currambene Creek just below the falls. A reserve and camp ground had been created on the site and change sheds and toilets had at one time been built there. The Princes highway bypassed the town in 1975. The general store and petrol station hung on for a while, but eventually closed. The only main street business operating in the town is the feed store. There still is a primary school. The creek silted up and the basin became a shallow reedy swamp. The reserve fell into disuse and the change sheds were demolished. What does the future hold?
